Light comes first
We plan around natural light before anything else. Get that right and the rest of the room follows.
Forma began in 2012 in a small Lisbon atelier, founded by an architect and an interior designer who shared a stubborn belief: that good space is felt before it is seen. They were tired of interiors that chased trends and forgot the people inside them.
From a two-person practice we've grown into a studio of fourteen architects, designers, and project leads — but the founding rule still holds. One senior designer owns every project from the first site visit to the final styled shelf, so nothing gets lost in translation.
Today we work across private homes, hospitality, retail, and workplace, in Portugal and beyond. What ties the work together isn't a look — it's a way of thinking about light, material, and how a room makes you feel when you walk in.
We don't have a house style — we have a set of convictions that shape how we approach each new room, each new client, each new constraint.
We plan around natural light before anything else. Get that right and the rest of the room follows.
Stone, timber, lime, linen — materials that age with grace and tell the truth about what they are.
A well-proportioned room needs little adornment. We resolve the bones before we add the layers.
Knowing what to leave out is the hardest discipline — and the one that makes a space feel calm.
We design for decades, not seasons, specifying for durability and sourcing responsibly where we can.
The best spaces emerge when clients are heard. We design with you, never simply for you.
A small, senior team of architects and designers who stay close to every project from concept to completion.
Leads architectural concept and spatial strategy across the studio.
Heads interior design, palettes, and material direction.
Owns residential projects end to end, from plan to styling.
Manages build, joinery, and trades to keep sites on track.
Numbers from across the studio's first fourteen years of practice.
Every project is different, but the way we work stays consistent: get close to the site and the client, sketch by hand, and refine until the space feels inevitable.
We immerse in how you live and how the light moves before drawing a single line.
You see the thinking at every stage, so the result is never imposed from above.
We stay on site through the build, protecting the detail that makes the difference.
Tell us about the space in front of you. We'll bring the craft, the calm, and the care to help you shape it.
